Description
Becoming a disciple of Jesus is the most important and transformative decision anyone can make; growing towards Jesus then becomes a lifetime journey and a lifestyle priority. Alex Jacob places Christian discipleship into its clear Biblical context and shares many contemporary and practical insights based on ten key steps. His book is concise, challenging and compelling.
An essay on biblical context is followed by ten short 'chapters' that stimulate understanding and encourage our personal response as Jesus' followers. Each chapter closes with questions for contemplation and/or group discussion.
If readers have walked the path of Christian discipleship for many years, or are taking their first steps on this wonderful journey, they will find much in this book to encourage and equip. It is ideal both for personal reading and reflection, as well as for programmed group study.
Market
Discipleship - and the need for - it is an oft-neglected aspect of pastoral support. Alex Jacob's book if both for the new disciple, as an encouragement, but also for those in varying types of church leadership, who carry a responsibility (as we all do) to help the new believer develop and mature in their faith.
In addition, Christians who want to get a fresh and timely insight into the Lord's relationship with his church, and who want a clear understanding of 'growth' towards maturity will find much here to encourage and also to reflect upon.
Author
Alex Jacob is a United Reformed Church minister, with over 40 years experience of theological study, ministry and mission across a range of church and leadership roles in the UK and worldwide.
Alex has written this book not because he sees himself as an expert on discipleship, far from it, but rather because he wants to do better himself as a disciple of Jesus, and wants to help resource others to do better, as well. In all his writings Alex brings a warm 'pastoral heart' alongside an astute 'theological mind'. This is his eighth book.
